July 12: “Naval Blockade: Success or Failure?”

Blockading Confederate ports was a primary objective of the Union navy.  Toward that end, thousands of sailors in hundreds of ships spent year-after-year on blockade duty attempting to sever the South’s oceanic life lines.  Did the blockade work?  CDR Dennis Ringle, USNR, author of Life in Mr. Lincoln’s Navy, comes to grips with this question and provides insight to the problems the Federal navy encountered in tightening its hold on the Southern coast.
